Staffordshire-Style Dogs

These adorable spaniels gained fame as “Staffordshire” dogs because they were made in Staffordshire, England, from the early 1700s thru the early 1900s. 

They were a quintessential Victorian bourgeois status-symbol ornament: no mantelpiece was complete without a pair of spaniels standing guard. Staffordshire dogs were also placed on the windowsill.
